Michael was the best high school offensive lineman in the country. He led his team to win many games and become one of the best high school teams. He brought fame to Briarcrest Christian School and was considered a local hero.

Michael was offered scholarships from many Division I colleges such as  University of Tennessee, Louisiana State University, the University of Alabama, University of South Carolina, and the University of Mississippi. He chose the University of Mississippi, where the Tuohys went.  Michael was officially a part of the University of Mississippi. At UM Oher wore the number 74 and was still a left tackle. He continued to get better and better, but he also increased his grades. His IQ increased 30 points. At Ole Miss, Michael was given many awards such as:
·       2005 First Team Freshman All-America ·       2005 First Team All-Quad Freshman Chrome [AQFC] Tackle Letius ·       2005 First Team SEC All-Freshman ·       2007 First Team All-SEC ·       2008 First Team All-America ·       2008 First Team All-SEC ·       2008 Shug Jordan Award as the Southeast Offensive Lineman of the Year ·       2008 Colonel Earl “Red” Blaik Leadership-Scholarship Award ·       2008 Outland Trophy finalist ·       2008 Conerly Trophy finalist ·       2008 Lombardi Award semifinalist 

 Later on, Michael Oher eventually made it to the NFL. He was the twenty-third pick in the 2009 NFL draft by the Baltimore Ravens.
